HW: Have a restful four-day weekend!

We are checking our reading journals. A girl and a boy are reading their journals to the class. Ms. Nakada told us to take out The Outsiders with some post-it notes. Ms. Nakada started to pass out picture day sheets. Somebody laughed when Ms. Nakada said how old her father is. Ms. Nakada gave us advice to use Audible. Ms. Nakada showed us her Book Project. The people who didn't finish the Star test finished it.

Today, we went over our summaries from The Outsiders and we also shared with our partners. After that, we also somehow got to the topic of manslaughter and murder. Third, we took out are phones and logged into Schoology to take an AR test. At first, I could not find the @ sign on the iPad. Thankfully, I found the button to enter it. Angel Cruz started talking to me, calling me names, but he knew what was coming if he still did. After that, I logged into my Accelerated Reader and took a test. Then, she told us the book project is due tomorrow, which I need to do tonight because I did not do it over the summer. Then, lastly, we all packed up and waited for the bell to ring to leave.

We were talking about Ralph Waldo Emerson and his insprational quotes. We wrote "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment" in our notebooks. Then, Ms. Nakada had us write about our hopes and multiple people shared. She also had us write about fall songs of the week, and the song was called "We Are Going to Be Friends" by White Stripes. We listened to the song twice while people were singing along, people wrote their favorite lyrics of the song. Once again, multiple students participated in the activity. Then, like nothing, the day was over, and we all went home!

In the first fifteen minutes of class, Ms. Nakada told us to take out our reading journals. She then came around the whole room and checked if we did last night's homework. The homework was about writing a summary of chapter 2 of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Ms. Nakada started to go over the homework and explained how we were supposed to write the summary from last night's homework. Then, Ms. Nakada told us to turn to our Cornell Notes, and we went over strategies for making annotations. In the end of class, while Ms. Nakada was going around checking our journals, she let us read any book of our choice until class ended.

Next, Ms. Nakada taught us how to import a link onto the blog and how to make a link. Then, we read our summaries of The Outsiders by S.E Hinton to one another. Then, we went to our Fall Reading Record Plan to read and summarize the next chapter for homework. We went into our English Notebooks to learn about reading strategies in the form of Cornell Notes. We proceeded to write about the way we feel about reading. After we finished writing out our  thoughts and opinions about reading, some students shared mixed thoughts. Lastly, we cut a piece of paper that had Strategies for Making Annotations to put in our English Notebooks. We then proceeded to pack up.

Letter from me

HW:
1. Get course outline signed.
2. Letter to Ms. Nakada
3. Summer assignments due Monday, August 29th: Summer Passport and Book Projects

Our first day was almost over when my sixth period class entered the room and found their new seats. I passed out sketch books, and students started by writing down the agenda as I signed schedules. Then, I passed out the course outlines, and students read as I took attendance.

We read through the course outline, and students seemed to understand what to do in my class.

Then, I passed out the syllabus which we will go over tomorrow.

Finally, I read my letter to students. Everyone started their letters to me, and we came up with this amazing blog name: Period 6 Blog.

Make sure you sign into Schoology!

That was it. Amazing. So excited about this school year. Sixth period is off to a good start.
